After leaving the Yucatan Peninsula by sea, I went straight to Belize. I knew absolutely nothing about this country. The only thing I knew was that Belize was called „British Honduras“ until it became independent in 1981 and was a British colony „surprise-surprise“.

My first stop in Belize was the island of Caye Caulker, where I was able to witness the annual independence celebration. After a few days, I went to the mainland to Belize City and from there to the border town of San Ignacio, where I met some interesting people. I then left Belize for Guatemala on a „classic“ chicken bus.
